Foxconn,GCL joint solar project to begin construction in 2Q13 Nuying Huang,Taipei;Jackie Chang,DIGITIMES[Thursday 4 October 2012]China-based polysilicon firm GCL-Poly has jointly invested in a solar power-generation plant in Datong,Shanxi with Foxconn(Hon Hai).The 310MW plant obtained a license from the China government at the beginning of September.According to Hua Shu,executive director and president of GCL-Poly,the project will begin construction in second-quarter 2013.

GCL-Poly is responsible for providing polysilicon and solar wafers for the project while Foxconn is responsible for solar cells and modules.The project is estimated to cost CNY3.1 billion(US$105 million).

GCL-Poly introduced the S2 multi-silicon solar wafers with efficiency in the range of 17.6-17.9%at PV Taiwan 2012.Shipments of the product began in September and have reached beyond 40MW per month.Sales in the Taiwan market have accounted for 20%of the firm's total revenues.

GCL-Poly reported an 80%capacity utilization rate in September.However,the figure will be affected in October due to the October 1 long holidays.
